Friedrichs Funeral HomeThomas J. Howley, 60-year resident of Mount Prospect, passed away December 24, 2014. Born October 11,1929 in Chicago to Helen née Sigerson and Thomas Howley. He was raised and schooled in Aclare, Co.Sligo, Ireland.

After returning to the United States at age 18, Tom served in the US Navy from 1950 to 1954 as a medic on the USS Haven during the Korean War. Following his Navy service, he began a long and varied career with Commonwealth Edison, starting as a meter reader, and retiring as a commercial inspector in 1983.

Tom was a member of American Legion Post #118, VFW Post #1337, and the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #660. He was a big fan of the Chicago’s sports teams, especially the Bears and the Cubs, and also Notre Dame football, Before his illness, Tom was a handball competitor at Lattoff YMCA; and enjoyed following the GAA (Gaelic) football and hurling events “across the pond”.

Tom is survived by his wife, Rita (née Rost;Murawski); sister, Sr.Anne J. Howley, Sisters of St.Joseph of Brisbane, Australia; niece,Therese (Tom) Oates; nephew, Thomas (Melisa) Cullen, greatniece, Ceara Cullen, and brother-in-law Frank Cullen. Tom is preceded in death by his parents, and sisters Mary (the late Jack) Flynn, and Eileen Cullen.

Visitation Monday (December 29) 12 Noon until Mass 1:00 PM at  St Raymond de Penafort Church, Elmhurst Rd,(Rt.83) at Lincoln St., Mt Prospect. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery, DesPlaines.
